How do Honeybees Stay Warm in the Winter?

As the temperatures get even colder this week, we can’t help but think about our bees and whether they are staying warm. But how do honey bees stay warm in the winter? Well, they are sort of like penguins! They cluster around their queen shivering and generating heat. They rotate which worker bees are on the outside so no one bee gets too cold. All this shivering takes a lot energy and food to fuel it. This is why we make sure they have lots of honey to eat over the winter; 2 huge boxes full! Here’s a great video from Scientific America explaining the process.
